Duncan, the king of Scotland, waits in his camp for news of the battle.  He learns that on of his generals Macbeth, has been victorious in several battles. Not only has Macbeth defeated the rebellious Macdonwald, but he has also conquered the armies of the king of norway and the scottish traitor, the Thane of Cawdor. King Duncan orders the Thane of Cawdors execution and announces that macbeth will receive the traitors title.
As Macbeth and Banquo were leaving the battlefield they met up with three witches, who were gleefully discussing the trouble they have caused. The witches hail macbeth by the title he already holds, Thane of Glamis. Then they tell him the prophacy that he will become Thane of Cawdor and king.  At this instence Banquo asks about his future and the witches speak in riddles saying that he will be the father of kings but not a king himself..
Once king duncan recieves comformation that the former Thane of cawdor has been exicuted, he is addmitting his bad judgement concerning the traitor and Macbeth enters with Banquo, Ross, and Angus.  Duncan expresses his gratitude to them and then officially names his own son malcolm as heir to the throne, and also to honor Macbeth, Duncan deciedes to visit Macbeths castle at inverness.
Lady Macbeth reads the letter from Macbeth that tells her of the witches prophecies. One has already come true, so she is determined that macbeth will be king. Lady Macbeth feels that her husband lacks the ambition to kill duncan.  A messenger imforms her that the king is visiting the castle, she then calls upon the powers of evil to help her get done what must be done.  Once Macbeth arrives she tells him that the king must die that night and also reminds him that he must also appear to be a good loyal host.
Once King Duncan arrives Lady Macbeth welcomes him.  Duncan is generous in his praise of his hosts and eagerly awaits Macbeths arrival.  Macbeth left Duncan in the middle of dinner. While Macbeth is alon he begins to have second thaughts about killing duncan because he believes he is a good king.  As Lady Macbeth enters and realinzes that he has changed his mind she is very angry.  She exsplains that she is going to drug the kings attendants so they can blame them for the murder.  Macbeth will kill the king with the servants daggers.
